About Platinum:

Platinum is one of the rarest precious metals in the world. Very few countries have platinum supplies, with South Africa (80%) and Russia (11%) accounting for approximately 90% of the world's supply. The yearly production from these mines is only 150 tons, which is 1/25 of the yearly production of gold. Moreover, the amount of platinum that can be produced from raw ore is relatively small. To make a single small ring of approximately 3 grams requires approximately 1 ton of raw ore.

Platinum in Jewelry:

The price and rarity value of platinum make it the king of precious metals. Platinum is an extremely stable metal that does not react with acid and therefore does not tarnish or change color over time. For this reason, platinum is increasingly popular for engagement rings. Platinum is aesthetically pleasing as a setting for stones because its subtle luster enhances rather than overshadows their beauty. The high viscosity of platinum means that there is no problem with cracks appearing when the metal is bent or pounded. However, if platinum is simply flexible and viscous then it would be easily scratched, so the time spent processing it is many times that of gold. Platinum jewelry appeal extends to all age groups and is everlasting, unaffected by trends. Ever since Louis Cartier III first used platinum as a setting for his diamonds, famous jewelers have used platinum for their most valuable items.

Platinum's Composition:

Pure platinum is very malleable and therefore difficult to process. Because of this, platinum is most often mixed with other alloys in order to create jewelry. The most commonly used alloys for platinum are palladium, rhodium and iridium.

Stamping:

The amount of platinum in a product is expressed in parts per thousand. "Pt1000" means that the product is 100% pure platinum. "Pt850" means that it is 85% pure platinum and 15% platinum alloy.

Our Products:

Platinum Mart uses palladium as our platinum alloy for necklaces and bracelets. Our plant is in Japan and has been primarily serving that market until now. Japan is the leading market for platinum jewelry and has a long history of processing platinum. This wealth of experience, both in terms of time and in terms of satisfying very demanding and sophisticated consumers, makes our design and processing engineers some of the most knowledgeable in the world. We even have the ability to create 100% platinum rings.

In Japan, pt850 products are mainstream, and the platinum is mixed with Palladium for necklaces and bracelets. Mixing with Palladium makes platinum whiter and harder, and also makes it possible to produce finely detailed designs.
